On November 19, UniCredit will host its third ESG Day under the motto ‘A New World: Shaping the Future of ESG’. The event will be streamed online and will bring together internationally recognized experts to outline key trends and challenges in the fields of environmental, social, and governance issues, within the context of a dynamic global environment and the urgent need for sustainable solutions.
The forum, organized in partnership with COP30, will explore how financial institutions can support businesses amid evolving ESG expectations and mobilize capital to drive climate and social action. The event will highlight the difficult and still unanswered questions about the future of environmental and social strategy, the social impacts of the climate crisis, and the reasons why commitment to ESG remains both necessary and urgent.
Through a series of panels and lectures, experts will challenge established practices, encourage new thinking, and address topics such as the future of ESG and financing the transition, the role of European regulations, integrating biodiversity into financial decision-making, social progress, and building sustainable supply chains.
The program will feature leading figures such as Professor Tito Boeri, Full Professor of Economics at Bocconi University, who will outline the broader macroeconomic context, focusing in detail on how these dynamics affect businesses, banks, and communities in Europe, and what lies ahead for ESG beyond the current backlash.
Lucia Marin, Deputy Head of Unit – E.1 Green Finance and Investments, DG Environment, European Commission, will lead the discussion on the EU’s efforts to simplify and streamline regulations and what this means in practice for businesses and their sustainability journey.
Dr. Frauke Fischer from the Department of Animal Ecology and Tropical Biology Biocenter, University of Würzburg, will speak about nature and biodiversity as the foundation of our existence, noting that their loss represents a systemic risk to our economy and society.
Fiona Melrose, Head of Group Strategy and ESG at UniCredit, and Silvia Cappellini, General Manager of the UniCredit Foundation, will discuss how education can be a key driver of social change in a world facing growing social, economic, and technological challenges.”
The discussion will highlight the role of banks as drivers of knowledge and catalysts of progress, as well as the importance of education in building a fairer, greener, and more inclusive future.
The annual ESG Day is part of UniCredit’s long-term commitment to sustainable finance and social development. Alongside the global forum, UniCredit Bulbank will continue the ESG dialogue at the local level through two regional events – in Plovdiv on November 19 and in Sofia on November 26 – focusing on promoting sustainable practices among businesses and institutions in Bulgaria.
