UniCredit Bulbank’s national research on the sentiments of Bulgarians: 60% of the Bulgarians are optimistic at the beginning of the year

People are most positive about achieving their year goals and their love life

Over 10 thousand have joined in a parallel Facebook research

Bulgarians are more optimistic about their love life than their professional development. These are the results of a national research of the sentiments of Bulgarians carried out by UniCredit Bulbank. The research was carried out between 6th and 10th January in telephone interviews with a representative sample of the population.

Generally, Bulgarians have shown a relatively high level of optimism at the beginning of the year – 60% of all respondents said that they expected a better year, and 75% of the respondents believe they would achieve their goals for 2014. In the eve of the holiday of love, over 70% of Bulgarians demonstrate optimism in this aspect of life.

Overall, women are greater optimists than men. The research results show that a major difference in the answers of men and women is that men have better expectations about their career and physical shape, whereas women are more hopeful about the foreseeable future.

Expectedly, the most self-confident group are the people aged between 18 and 29 years, and the least so – the respondents over 60 years old.

Geographically speaking the most skeptical people can be found in regional cities, whereas the people in smaller towns and Sofia have a positive attitude. The highest percentage of optimism is that of people with jobs – an entire 77%. It is curious to know that income does not have any major impact on how optimistic a person is about their future.

What does Facebook say?

Alongside the national research UniCredit Bulbank, being one of the most active banks in the social media, conducted an online enquiry through the social media Facebook called My 2014. This large-scale enquiry will be on until the end of the month and already has over 10 thousand respondents, who have filled in the questionnaire on UniCredit Bulbank’s Facebook page - the most liked page of a financial institution with its over 40 thousand fans.

The participants in the Facebook enquiry have shown an even higher level of optimism than the one measured in the national research. Exactly 71% of them expect that tomorrow will be a better day for them. A main difference between the Facebook respondents and those in the national research is that the former rely more on a positive professional development and have lower expectations concerning their physical shape and love.
