UniCredit supported the first Match for Peach in which great football stars took part and which was held under the patronage of Pope Francis.
Some of the legendary players in the game were Diego Maradona, Gianluigi Buffon, Samuel Eto‘o, Andrea Pirlo, Javier Zanetti, Roberto Baggio, Alessandro Del Piero, Ronaldinho.
1st September marked the 75th anniversary of the start of WWII and the idea of the football match was to show its symbolic support for world peace. This is the message which Pope Francis himself conveyed to the players before the start of the game.
The two teams, Pupi, led by the coach of the Argentinian national team Gerardo Martino, and Scholas, led by Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger, finished 6:3. The teams are named after the two foundations which will receive all proceeds from the event as a donation. Scholas is an international educational network supported by Pope Francis, and Pupi is dedicated to supporting disadvantaged children.
The biggest European banking group backs this initiative because of its strong belief in the power of intercultural understanding.
